Studying, teaching, and performing improvisation has opened up the way I navigate the world and live my life. In 2018 I co-founded Glass City Improv, and I facilitate team-building workshops in Toledo and across Northwest Ohio and Southern Michigan to help organizations develop more communicative and responsive leaders, and promote creativity and collaboration across teams. Using foundational principles of improvisation, my workshops encourage agreement and acceptance, exploration and discovery, and authentic, honest connection with others. My research on Del Close and his extraordinary influence on improvisation and American comedy with my co-author Dr. Melinda Lewis is cited in this review of the documentary about his life, For Madmen Only, now playing on Hulu and Apple+. In October 2023 I presented on the use of improv games in group counseling at the All Ohio Counselors Conference and my article, “Increase Empathy & Mindfulness Undergraduate Education with Improvisation” is published in the 2024 issue of Applied Improvisation Network Magazine.
