Weeknight groups are held in Sylvania, Ohio. Group therapy is covered through most health insurance plans. This group is offered to adults 25+. In January 2026 I’ll be teaching Improv for Anxiety online!
Improvisation promotes creativity, collaboration, curiosity, teamwork, discovery, and empathy.
Improv group therapy provides a safe space to practice letting go, relinquish control, and share your generosity with others. Participants learn about the joy of improv by playing games to engage left and right brain, stay present, take bold risks, fail spectacularly and live to laugh about it. By embracing openness and playfulness, you can reduce negative self-talk, promote creativity, and develop meaningful and supportive connections with others.
Improvisation promotes mutual agreement, support, acceptance of ideas, and the development of trust and confidence. Feel more connected to and present with others through mutual support and affirmation using games and exercises. Class sessions will use specific individual and group skill building exercises to encourage creative collaboration and spontaneity!
Learning Outcomes:
*Understand the fundamentals of improvisation: say yes, explore, discover, make your partners look good!
* Develop active listening for greater awareness on empathy, social-emotional intelligence, and finding patterns and themes.
* Understand creative tools for communication and understanding.
My interest in and commitment to group work is borne out of my love of improvisation. I am a member of the American Group Psychotherapy Association and have presented on the power of improvisation in a variety of settings as well as in my scholarship and research.
A vast body of research supports using improvisational techniques to reduce a number of mental health symptoms because there is a significant connection between the skills necessary to self-regulate our emotions and the principles of improvisation (Van der Kolk, 2015; Sheesley et al., 2016; Lawrence & Coaston, 2017; Krueger & Murphy, 2019; Schwenke et al., 2020).
